Nueces County Republican Party Passes Resolution Opposing Department of Sustainability. Corpus Christi, Nueces County, Texas —
On July 11, 2023, at the Nueces County Republican Party Executive Committee (CEC) meeting, the Executive Committee voted unanimously to pass a resolution opposing a proposal to create and fund a Department of Sustainability. This resolution was passed in light of a current budget proposal by the Corpus Christi Mayor, City Manager, and several members of the Corpus Christi City Council to fund and create a so-called Department of Sustainability in an upcoming City budget.
The proposed Department will cost the city further tax dollars and duplicate existing initiatives to protect the environment. This budget proposal will simply create another Department with unacceptable oversight over other City Departments and entities and increase already untenable amounts of bureaucratic structures in the City government.
The Nueces County Republican Party’s unanimous passage of the Resolution indicates the Party’s FIRM and STRENOUS opposition to wasteful government spending, further upending of balanced governmental powers, and additional and unnecessary bureaucracy in the Corpus Christi city government. Given the city’s already inflating budget, the Party condemns further attempts such as these to increase the budget and limit potential for economic growth in the City of Corpus Christi.
